PARENT WORKSHOPS

MAKING SENSE OF EDUCATIONAL SUPPORTS
Thursday, April 21,2016 6:30-8:30 p.m.
This workshop is for those who have students in the school setting who are dealing with behavioral, social and/ or academic challenges.  The presenters will provide information about how to effectively navigate the school system in order to fully address your child’s needs.  We will offer support to families in understanding both federal and state programs currently guiding instructional interventions in the school setting. Be informed about Parent/Students’ Rights and Responsibilities to advocate for services. Pre-registration is required.

PARENTING ANXIOUS CHILDREN
Monday, May 16, 2016 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Build a “tool kit” so you and your child will have strategies to manage worries and anxiety. This class is for parents of 9-14 year olds who struggle with excessive or hard to control worry. We will talk about the different ways anxiety presents and affects children, identify your child’s trigger points and develop an understanding of how anxiety affects the lives of families. You will be ready to assist your child if/when worries present.

JEDI TRAINING CLASS
8 Mondays, April, 4 2016 – May 23, 2016 4:15 – 5:15 p.m.
This is a physically challenging Yoga Calm class for boys age 7-12 wanting to develop strong hearts, minds, and bodies. Yoga Calm activities develop self-regulation/control and friendship skills such as how to ask other children to play, negotiate what to play, play cooperatively and give/take positive feedback. Sessions close with relaxation and storytelling to reduce stress, reinforce learning and help students discover their gifts. This class can accommodate up to 11 students.

BEGINNERS AD/HD GROUP for Ages 7-12 Class Registration Closed
2 Parent Meetings, Wednesday, April 6 and June 8, 2016 5:00 – 6:15 p.m.
8 Student Sessions, Wednesdays, April 13 – June 1, 2016 5:00 – 6:15 p.m.
This group teaches children struggling with self-control and/or attention (AD/HD) to work productively and behave appropriately within group settings. This program introduces behavioral, cognitive and emotional regulation skills that are reinforced through specially designed peer group activities. The group model encourages peer support and enables the children to learn from each other. Parents observe to learn and then apply the concepts at home. PAY ATTENTION TO ATTENTION GROUP (WEEKLY format)
2 Parent Meetings, Tuesdays. April 5 and June 7, 2016 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.
8 Student Sessions, Tuesdays. April 12 – May 31, 2016 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.
This group is designed for elementary aged children with primary weaknesses in effortful/executive/ “everyday” attention. The group begins and ends with parents-only meetings. Parents learn how to light up their children’s attention center and work within their child’s attention span. Students will learn the importance of giving teachers and tasks their undivided attention. Attention training games will help students improve their ability to sustain attention, shift focus and monitor task activity. This group requires a specialized registration packet available at the office, online at www.childrensprogram.com (General Forms page) or mailed upon request. Please note: children with self-control/attention problems are better served in the Beginner’s AD/HD Group.
